Current Positions

Private practice of individual psychotherapy and couples counseling, San Francisco.

Clinical Professor of Medicine; Clinical Professor of Psychiatry, Department of Psychiatry and Behavioral Sciences, Weill Institute of Neurosciences; Consultant for the Symptom Management Service of the Helen Diller Family Comprehensive Cancer Center; Member, Professional Advisory Group, Clinical Pastoral Education Program, Spiritual Care Services: all at the University of California, San Francisco Medical Center.

Mentor, Center for Psychedelic Therapies and Research, California Institute of Integral Studies, San Francisco.

My work in individual psychotherapy has been greatly enhanced by my association with Harold Sampson, Ph.D. and Fran Sampson, Ph.D., of the San Francisco Psychotherapy Research Group, and with Raja Selvam, Ph.D., Peter A. Levine, Ph.D., and Jerry P. Nims, Ph.D. I also deeply value the wisdom of the poet David Whyte and of scholar and teacher Robert Thurman, Ph.D.

Over the years, many couples have entrusted me to help them and, in turn, have helped me understand ways of deepening and repairing intimacy. Additionally, I have been grateful for the work of Stan Tatkin, Psy.D. (Psychobiological Approach to Couples Therapy); Susan Johnson, Ed.D. (Emotionally Focused Therapy); John Gottman, Ph.D.; Harville Hendrix, Ph.D.; Susan Gantt, Ph.D. (Systems Centered Therapy); Jerry P. Nims, Ph.D.; Daniel Wile, Ph.D.; and Dennis Zeitlin, M.D.
